Ignite Curiosity & Awaken Wonder

The Open Gate Farm School - Connecting Kids to Creation

According to farmer and author, Wendell Berry, “I am not suggesting, of course, that everybody ought to be a farmer…. I am suggesting that most people now are living on the far side of a broken connection…. We are now in a profound failure of imagination. Most of us cannot imagine the wheat beyond the bread, or the farmer beyond the wheat, or the farm beyond the farmer.”
We are living on the far side of a broken connection with God's creation.
It's time that we reconnect with, learn about, and care for
the animals & land that care for us.

"The mud will wash off, but the memories will last a lifetime."

Boxwood House

"The house is absolutely beautiful and deceptively large! Every detail has been thought out. We loved the subtle decorations, the thoughtfully chosen picture book selection placed in a basket in the living room, the fresh eggs, and newly baked sourdough bread. Our family enjoyed fetching fresh eggs, visiting with the friendly farm dogs, and taking a walk on the trails through the woods. We also opted to participate in a baking class over at the main farmhouse with the host family. What fun! The bedrooms were perfect with ample storage and comfy beds. The kitchen was well stocked and easy to cook and bake in. Our family loved spending our evenings together downstairs in the game room playing table tennis and pool. We also enjoyed time in the library and playing board games. This host has thought of everything and were extremely accommodating. You will not regret a stay here.

Heidi and Joey and their family have created a magical place. We felt completely taken away and so comfortable. We were a family of 8 celebrating a special birthday. Heidi was responsive to my requests early on and had everything waiting for us! The home is even better than the photos. Clean, comfortable, well-appointed, and very well designed! Gorgeous furnishing and art all around. The land itself is also stunning. We enjoyed bread making and walking around the property and seeing the animals. We would highly recommend Heidi & Joey’s home and look forward to coming again!

The Carriage House

"We were looking for a little farm family experience for our youngest ones 3rd birthday, and our stay did not disappoint! We arrived at the carriage house, and were greeted by the hosts family. The entire family was extremely warm and kind. I had asked in advance about little “chores” my kids could help with, Heidi was extremely helpful in coordinating, and the next morning my kids helped bring the cows to the pastures to graze, collect chicken eggs, and also snuggle and help care for puppies that were born a few months before. Their eldest son took us on a foraging walk, finished with mint tea from the mint we collected. My eldest also fished in their pond with another one of their kids, they were all so hospitable! We were also surprised by a little s’mores basket for that evening! My only complaint was that we weren’t there long enough. As for the space, it was absolutely beautiful, and there was more than enough room for our family of 5. We will cherish these memories forever, and are so grateful for our stay.
